Nadine Pierre-Louis

Located in the heart of New York is a remarkably beautiful young Haitian Adventist lady by the name of Nadine Pierre-Louis. Born to Fritz and Marie Pierre-Louis in New York, Nadine has grown up to be an amazing woman. Despite enormous challenges facing young people in today's society, so far, she seems to have passed every challenge with flying colors. Her genuine temperament, coupled with her psychological, spiritual and emotional stability makes her holistically attractive.

At the age of 18, Nadine enrolled at Southwestern Adventist University located in Keene, Texas, where she majored in elementary education and early childhood education. As a student, Nadine was very active in campus life. She was a member of a powerful choir and participated in a number of social and spiritual activities. Her tenacity as well as her academic competence made her a brilliant student.

At the end of her college years, just when she was about to join the real world, Nadine became impatiently desired to do missionary work in South Korea. While many of her fellow graduates were working on preparing their top-notch resumes to enter the workforce, Nadine felt that God wanted her to be a part of something special over there. So, without hesitation, she followed her God and her heart.

While in Korea, Nadine was a member of a group of missionary students from all over the world. Even though she participated in various missionary activities, her main task was to teach English classes to Adventist leaders, community leaders, members of city council, stay-at-home moms, students, etc. Nadine quickly realized that, in Korea, people are hungry to learn English, especially the Adventist community over there.

The English language is a hot commodity.  So the Adventist volunteers take this opportunity to teach people English while at the same demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ. And there is nothing more Christ-like than serving strangers half way around the world. According to Nadine, some of her students could not begin to fathom that kind of love. Realizing the importance of her contribution to the missionary work in Korea, Nadine became even more convinced that God wanted her to be there.

One day, as Nadine's roommates were away and the night hours were approaching, she suddenly felt compelled to take a walk in the neighborhood. Even though she was not sure where she was heading, she set out to explore her surroundings. As she was observing the neighborhood, she lost track of time. When she looked at her watch, she couldnt believe how late it was. And she definitely didnt expect to be out that late. Thus, she immediately made a turnabout.

As she was returning to her apartment, she saw the pastor of her group frantically racing up towards her apartment with all of her contact information, passport and ID card. When the pastor saw her in a rather good spirit, he was relieved. He was extremely elated to know that Nadine was not in the apartment.

When she arrived at the apartment, she was shocked to see that she and her roommates were victims of vandalism and robbery. Apparently, the apartment had been ransacked by a group of thugs during the time she was out. At this point, Nadine began to think of what could have happened to her had she stayed in the apartment alone. Now she realized why earlier she had felt compelled to take a walk--a walk that lasted much longer than she anticipated. The only possible reason she came up with is that God had taken her out for a walk in order to protect her from danger.

Realizing what God had done, Nadine was extremely convinced that God was with her. As a result, she spent the rest of the year finding creative and interesting ways of communicating the gospel. She wrote plays and skits that helped to spread the love of God. Although her Korean language was not fluent, her actions were louder than words. She became so involved in the ministry over there that she didn't want leave.

Today Nadine is an elementary teacher in New York. In her free time she participates in creative story telling. She believes that almost every story has a lesson. Some are obvious others are hidden and left to ones interpretation. Moreover, she believes that stories give us a voice and an opportunity to be heard. I feel blessed by every opportunity to tell a story, said Nadine.

It is noteworthy to say that, though a Haitian American woman who was born and raised in United States, Nadine's Creole is impressive. Also, based on information that will be expressed at a later time, Nadine is bound to be a global spectacle. Her naturally feministic mannerism, coupled with her authentic afrocentricity, will keep the world engrossed.
